Class 66

Still looking rather smart in its shiny coat of DB Schenker red 66001 is seen passing Woolaston with 6M81 Margam - Round Oak on the 5th of June 2014

Shiny DB Schenker shed 66001 is seen not far into its journey as it passes Cholsey with 6L35 Didcot - Dagenham empty car carriers

The now nameless 66002 passes Portskewett on the 5th of June 2014 with 6V05 Round Oak - Margam empty steel carriers

66003 leads 4O53 Wakefield - Southampton Western Docks through Eastleigh on the 1st of September 2011, after coming down from the Midlands this working recesses in Eastleigh Yard for over an hour so time keeping shouldn't be an issue

Making a pretty unusual sight is 66003 heading the recoded 6X45 Toton - Bescot through Catholme on the 14th of July 2011, with its rake of loaded tilting point carriers its certainly a more interesting sight than a consist of empty sleeper carriers!

66004 leads eight classmates through Gatcombe on the 8th of June 2013 while working 0X98 Newport ADJ - Bescot in preperation for the coming weekends engineering works, in order behind 66004 are 017+129+005+200+082+044+142+170

66005 gets underway with its impressive rake of empty tanks forming 6B41 Eastleigh Yard - Fawley on the 1st of September 2011, as can be seen here from Campbell Road the Buddleia is taking over like many other locations on the network

66006 storms through Acton Turville with 4D10 Didcot Power Station - Avonmouth on the 11th of February 2012, the previous night a good dusting of snow had settled in the local area, but by the time this shot was taken though the majority had melted away leaving just tiny deposits in the fields

66007 heads 6V69 Bescot - Newport ADJ empty china clay tanks just to the south of Lydney on the 19th of June 2012, unfortunately the friendly wave from the driver was not intended for me but the driver of 6E09 Swansea - Immingham which was about to obliterate the view in less than a second

A nice added extra on the 27th of April 2011 at Abington was 66008 working 6L30 Mossend - Carlisle made up of an assortment of 4 wheeled spoil / ballast wagons, the road at the bottom right of the picture is the road you use to access the location from the north and is very seldom used other than by the friendly farmer

66009 speeds through Acton Turville with its graffiti covered rake forming 6B35 Hayes - Moreton On Lugg on the 1st of February 2012, this picture doesn't tell the full story of the day as it looks beautiful but in reality was bitter! With the temperature not passing 1c all day and a strong easterly wind blowing in it was beyond cold

66016 works a very healthy looking 6A48 Bicester - Didcot Yard MOD stores under the great vantage point of the footbridge that overlooks both Hinksey Yard and Hinksey Lake on the 3rd of October 2011

66016 climbs the gradient at Cattybrook with 6Z14 Llanwern - Dollands Moor loaded steel on the 10th of April 2011, in the background a very healthy stock of bricks can be seen at the IBSTOCK brick works

As a group of 'trainspotters' admire their shots from the bridge in front 66017 heads the always interesting 6X52 Portbury - Mossend through Undy on the 11th of July 2013

66017 hauls its rake of now vintage 25 PGA hoppers through Patchway on the 19th of February 2013 while forming 6A97 Port Talbot Grange Sidings - Acton

Seen passing Undy on the 4th of July 2013 is 66018 heading the usual lengthy rake of vans and cars, this working is 6X52 Portbury - Mossend it will travel via Newport ADJ to detach, or more likely in this case attach traffic for its onward journey north

In the hands of 66018 6C79 Immingham - Scunthorpe ambles towards Brocklesby Junction on the 12th of April 2011

66018 heads around the curve at Ulceby with 6C75 Immingham - Scunthorpe on the 12th of April 2011, in the background the crossing gates can already be seen in a vertical position for traffic to once again cross the railway line

66018 approaches Barnetby with 4C71 Scunthorpe - Immingham on the 12th of April 2011, with the clear morning air the level crossing gates of Brigg can be seen amongst the mass of semaphores in the distance

A rather dirty 66019 hurries through Stenson with 6X01 Scunthorpe - Eastleigh with its consist of loaded rails on the 13th of January 2012, the bridge seen to the extreme left of the picture takes the public footpath over the nearby Trent and Mersey canal which hugs the same route of the line for a fair few miles

On a roasting hot 30th of June 2015 66025 is seen leading 6V92 Corby - Margam through Bullo Pill

66027 rounds the curve towards Didcot North Junction with 6M44 Southampton Eastern Docks - Halewood empty car carriers on the 11th of May 2012, the movement of Land Rover Evoque's from the Merseyside plant to Southampton for export has seen huge growth in movement between the two terminals over the last 12 months, which in turn would explain the record breaking profit announced by Jaguar Land Rover for the last financial year, proof indeed that Britain can still manufacture cars for profit and compete with the rest of the world when all parties pull together!

66027 makes use of the main at Pilning at the head of 6B50 Swindon - Llanwern steel empties on the 27th of September 2011, more often than not this working will wait time in the loop which would mean a swift move to the road bridge around half a mile away to try and get the light on the right side

66030 rolls through Undy on the 24th of July 2012 with 6X52 Portbury - Mossend loaded car carriers, on this occasion the majority of its load is in the form of Citreon vans

66031 makes hard work while climbing the hill at Pilning with 22 loaded spoil wagons and a dead in train 66087 which can be seen on the rear, this working was 6W31 Bridgend - Hinksey and ran on the 15th of January 2012 in conjunction with a large amount of engineering work in South Wales

66031 leads 4D12 Didcot Power Station - Avonmouth on the 29th of September 2011 through Shrivenham, the consist is made up the rather charm free rake of the rather boring EWS liveried HTA hoppers, apart from that is the 3rd hopper that is which has had a makeover during recent times in some sidings somewhere!

66031 powers through Compton Beachamp on the 29th of September 2011 with 6D11 Avonmouth - Didcot Power Station, the uniform level of coal in the HTA's is created as the train creeps under the loading silo at Avonmouth as opposed to the look of some coal workings which are loaded using diggers that create a uneven look to the load

After getting done by a floater at Barrow On Trent an hour earlier a move was needed to nail this loco on this working, and thankfully it paid off! Euro Cargo Rail liveried 66033 powers up after getting the signal at Catholme to proceed towards Alrewas with 6K50 Toton - Crewe on the 14th of July 2011

Wearing the traditional RHTT livery 66035 leads 3S59 Bristol Barton Hill - Bristol Barton Hill through Somerton near Newport on the 25th of November 2011, filthy classmate 66079 is seen bringing up the rear of the train, very lucky that this was a short train as the shadows can be seen chasing the 66's up the line!

A filthy looking 66035 is seen working 4Z65 Ratcliffe - Daw Mill through Portway on the 4th of March 2011, with the visible tracks in the field on the left its clear the farmer has had a little bit too much of the old wine!

66039 restarts its journey after a pause a Stenson with 4Z33 Milford Sidings - Avonmouth on the 30th of January 2012

In the dying embers of daylight on the 4th of March 2011 66039 passes Cholsey Manor Farm with 6X48 Dagenham - Didcot Yard loaded Ford Cars and Vans

Another diverted stone working captured off of its usual patch on the 2nd of April 2013 is 6V62 St Pancras - Whatley, seen at the head of ex RMC dominated hoppers 66043 passes South Moreton in some lovely afternoon light

66046 heads the diverted 6H25 Margam - Llanwern through Magor on the 10th of November 2013

Looking very work worn 66046 passes through Catholme on the 6th of May 2013 with 6G45 Toton - Bescot engineers

Scruffy looking EWS example 66046 leads its rake of loaded spoil wagons through Portskewett on the 14th of October 2012, this working is 6W36 Standish Junction - Hinksey via Newport ADJ

In the super morning sun of the 29th of September 2011 66046 powers 6M50 Westbury - Bescot via Hinksey departmental through Compton Beachamp

66046 rolls out of Pilning loop with 6B86 Avonmouth - Aberthaw on the 9th of August 2011, the train hadn't yet reached my preferred position for the shot but a small floater had just clipped the sun and was affecting the light where i was stood and indeed the area just in front of what is visible in this shot

6X52 Portbury - Warrington loaded cars with 66046 approaches Pilning with a pretty poorly loaded train on the 7th of April 2011, thankfully what load there was is seen towards the front of the train

66050 passes through Hallen Marsh with 6B68 Avonmouth - Aberthaw on the 2nd of December 2011, what had started out as the first frosty morning of the Winter soon became a rather cloudy affair with banks of high level cloud moving in from the west

With its patchwork state roof 66050 grinds its way through Brentry on the freight only Avonmouth branch with 6B68 Avonmouth - Aberthaw on the 25th of October 2011, with the golden morning light shining brightly it was a tight squeeze trying to fit the loco in a gap amongst the long Autumn shadows

There can't be many locations where you can capture two different countries in your image but this is one of them, 66051 powers through Hallen Marsh over the busy M5 motorway near Avonmouth with 6W24 Clifton Down - Hinksey Yard via Bristol Parkway on the 16th of October 2011, with the industrial estate of Avonmouth visible this side of the River Severn and around four miles in the distance is Wales and as far as i can work out the area towards the centre of the picture is roughly where Severn Tunnel Junction is!

A service of steel which ran for approximately six months was the two way transport of coils which originate at Ijmuiden in Holland to be tinplated at Trostre, They were then returned to the continent via 6Z14 Llanwern - Dollands Moor, On the 25th of March 2011 66051 is seen passing Patchway with its eye catching rake of IHA's in tow

66059 approaches Cholsey Manor Farm on the 28th of August 2012 with a very well loaded 4O23 Hams Hall - Southampton

66060 is seen at pretty much full speed through Northway near Ashchurch on the 12th of October 2012 at the head of 4V83 Ratcliffe - Portbury, by the looks of it the horn grill has either been repainted or had a damn good clean lately!

66061 passes Rangeworthy with 6Z35 Bescot - Avonmouth Castle cement tanks on the 18th of April 2014

With its rake of rather battered looking consist mainly made up of OBA's and OCA's 66063 passes through Newton St Loe on the 18th of November 2012 with 6W36 Filton West Junction - Westbury, this train ran in connection with several weekend possesions on the freight only Avonmouth - Filton section of line

Patience once again paid off on the evening of the 12th of April with some good clear spells in which 66063 is captured passing Ulceby towards Brocklesby Junction working 6T27 Immingham - Santon

As the clouds chase it down the track 66063 passes New Barnetby with 6K22 Santon - Immingham on the 12th of April 2011

In some lovely winter sun 66063 hauls its 25 empty HTA' while forming 4D10 Didcot - Avonmouth seen passing Ram Hill on the 20th of January 2011

With the sun high in the sky and rather harsh 66065 winds around the curve as it passes through Portskewett with 6V78 Scunthorpe - Margam empty slab carriers on the 5th of June 2014, this is yet another location that will be lost very soon due to the increase in lineside vegetation

66065 leads 6O42 Halewood - Southampton loaded Land Rovers through Lower Wick on the 26th of April 2013, the whole length of the train can just about be seen underneath the busy M5 Motorway

66067 eases through Barrow On Trent on the 12th of October 2012 with 6M00 Humber - Kingsbury, shortly this train will rejoin the mainline at Stenson Junction before continuing on its way to Kingsbury

66069 trundles along the relief at Denchworth with 4D12 Didcot Power Station - Avonmouth on the 2nd of February 2012, to the extreme right of the picture is the very power station that this working has originated from, and with the cold winter air plenty of steam can be seen rising from its cooling towers

66069 hammers through Chipping Sodbury on the 25th of March 2011 with 6B49 Llanwern - Swindon loaded steel, The DBS fleet of 66's are looking ever increasingly shabby!

In the capable hands of 66070 6V05 Round Oak - Margam empty steel passes Coedkernew on the 7th of December 2011, the light may be glorious but at this time of year you pay for it with a temperature barely above freezing and to add to this a howling gale was blowing

66074 passes South Moreton with 6X44 Dagenham - Didcot loaded vans and cars on the 2nd of April 2013

As the sun lowers in the sky after a beautiful spring day 66078 powers 4M52 Southampton Eastern Docks - Castle Bromwich through Kings Sutton on the 8th of April 2011

Filthy 66079 powers up Pilning incline with 3S59 Bristol Barton Hill - Bristol Barton Hill RHTT on the 30th of November 2011, the following day proved to be the last run of the water canons in the Bristol area until the battle against the leaf mulch starts again next Autumn

On its first day on RHTT duties 66079 positively shines in comparison to classmate 66175 bringing up the rear of the train, here the pair are on the approach to Parson Street with 3S59 Bristol Barton Hill - Bristol Barton Hill on the 19th of October 2011, this leg of the working sees the pair head as far South as Weston Super Mare before heading back to Bristol Barton Hill

66080 heads through Undy on the 2nd of July 2015 with 6X52 Portbury - Mossend loaded vehicles, on this occasion the consist was nearly entirely made up of vans of one shape or another with just a couple of cartics at the rear of the consist loaded with cars

66086 speeds through Callow Hill, Brinkworth with 6B49 Llanwern - Swindon loaded steel on the 2nd of September 2011

66087 rolls through Somerton on the 3rd of February 2012 with 6M86 Margam - Dee Marsh, this service usually goes via Llanwern to pick up and or set down traffic before proceeding to Dee Marsh later in the day

66093 leads 6W42 Lydney - Westbury via East Usk up the incline at Pilning on the 27th of November 2011, this engineering service ran in conjunction with a possesion between Westerleigh Junction and Gloucester, meaning it had to travel the long way round to get back to its Wiltshire destination

66096 leads the diverted 6M60 Exeter Riverside - Bescot through Gatcombe on the 8th of June 2013, its now more usual route of the Marches line was blocked for engineering work

With the sun shining brightly a shot on my doorstep had to be done! 66097 works its way through the village of Pill shortly after departing Portbury with 6M39 to Ratcliffe on the 12th of June 2014

DB Schenker's house branded 66097 is seen as it climbs towards the single bore Patchway tunnel at Cattybrook on the 27th of July 2012 with 6A83 Machen - West Drayton

DB Schenker's second Class 66 to receive house colours was 66097 and here it is seen looking still very shiny passing Catholme on the 14th of July 2011, this working is 6V35 Rotherham - Cardiff Tidal conveying empty SPA's, each SPA seemed to have a livery variation and most definitely the majority are covered in rust, cracking end to a productive evening!

Running as 6Z27 66111 heads south through Kings Sutton with loaded ballast from Stud Farm - Hinksey, seen passing the public foot crossing on the 8th of April 2011, hope the piece of paper wedged under the windscreen wiper isn't important!

With some welcome colours still adorning the trees and lineside vegetation at Coedkernew 66114 leads 6V67 Redcar - Margam on the 7th of December 2011

66114 returns north with 6S51 Carlisle - Mossend engineers on the 26th of April 2011, seen passing over the truly awesome and stunning Crawford viaduct as the River Clyde passes gently underneath after the recent dry spell

Running around 120 minutes late 66114 heads 6M49 Mossend - Carlisle engineers through Abington on the 26th of April 2011, this diagram is supposed to be a solid 92 turn, but due to the unavailabiltity of electric traction a shed was found

66114 struggles away from its stop in Elford loop with 6M00 Humber - Kingsbury seen here passing Portway on the 7th of March 2011, the passing speed here of the shed was no more than 5mph, rubbish!

Despite being local to Pilning this is probably one of my first shots of a loaded coal off of the road bridge, generally due to the fact that when the sun gets high enough for the shot to be on, coal stops running for the summer! On the 7th of April 2011 66118 is seen departing the loop with 6B86 Avonmouth - Aberthaw

Filthy 66139 powers through Portskewett with 6V05 Round Oak - Margam on the 3rd of February 2012, on what was a pretty clear day some high level cloud can be seen in the distance which had formed over the River Severn due to the high tide

66139 passes New Barnetby with 6K22 Santon - Immingham iron ore empties on the 13th of April 2011

As the sun nears the horizon at Ulceby on the 12th of April 2011 66139 drops onto the ore circuit with 6T28 Immingham - Santon, lovely stuff!

66145 heads the lenghty 4E66 Margam - Redcar coke empties through Somerton near Newport on the 25th of November 2011, to the very extreme left of the picture is the now nearly derelict East Usk Yard

66147 eases through Portskewett on the 1st of November 2011 with 6V67 Redcar - Margam loaded coke, between the trees towards the rear of the train part of the original Severn Bridge can be seen, it was opened in September 1966, now thats way before my time and anything that happened that long ago or especially that year really isn't that relevant anymore!

66147 leads 4O23 Hams Hall - Southampton through South Moreton on the 3rd of October 2011, with the shadows encrouching fast in the super Autumn sun it was hard to believe the temperature was still near 25 degrees and feeling more like the summer of 2011 that never happened!

66147 eases its lightweight load of two PCA tanks through Cranberry on the morning of the 30th of September 2011 while working 6B11 Warrington Arpley - Bletchley Cemex, the tanks can be seen both still wearing the now long redundant eye catching RMC livery

66151 powers 4D10 Didcot Power Station - Avonmouth through Ram Hill near Coalpit Heath on the 12th of November 2011, the more conventional shot in the cutting between the trees at this location is at present no good as trees are now encrouching up the bankside and covering parts of the subject, this however is a nice alternative, the length of the shadows give away the fact that even though its only lunchtime we are now approaching Winter

Now that Autumn is well under way Aberthaw's demand for coal has increased and is taking in coal from a range of sources, one of them being Portbury located on the Severn Estuary, seen here powering towards Pilning is 66151 with 4C70 Aberthaw - Portbury on the 25th of October 2011, later in the day it will return to the hungry South Wales power station with another 21 HTA's loaded with imported coal

66165 heads one of the regular ore trips in the shape of 6K21 Santon - Immingham on the approach to Barnetby on the 12th of April 2011, very happy to see this as on the first day of the trip the ore was running from Redcar vice Immingham and would have had a major impact on the freight total if that would have continued for the week!

For the second night in a row 66166 heads 6M24 Lindsey - Kingsbury loaded tanks through Ulceby on the 12th of April 2011, never a tug around when you want one!

66167 heads the lenghty 6O32 Margam - Dollands Moor loaded steel through Pacthway on the 9th of March 2014, the more standard position for taking photos from the end of the platform was of no use on this particular day as can be seen by the rather large 'R' speed restriction sign that was right in the way!

66168 heads the Bristol based RHTT set off of the Bishton flyover on the 8th of November 2012 as 3S59 Bristol Barton Hill - Bristol Barton Hill, with class mate 66027 looking a rather darker shade of brown on the rear

On one of the hottest days of the year 66176 makes its maiden journey for the current Autumn with the Barton Hill based RHTT set through Severn Tunnel Junction, with 66175 tagging along on the rear the pair at this stage for obvious reasons still look pretty clean, 28th of September 2011

66181 ambles through Barrow On Trent with 6M00 Humber - Kingsbury on the 28th of October 2011, a really good location for Autumn and Winter shots as there is very little to shadow the line in either direction this section of line

66181 Heads through Hinksey on the 4th of March 2011 while working the last 4O16 Ditton - Southampton, DB Schenker have now reverted to running this traffic to and from Trafford Park resulting in a much later path back south

Once a common sight on this route in the shape of much more appropriate traction and MGR hoppers working from around the Midlands to supply coal to Didcot, fast forward to the 8th of April 2011 and 66182 makes a poor second best with its rake of grubby HTA's while heading 6M53 Didcot - Daw Mill through Kings Sutton

66185 approaches Didcot North Junction on the 11th of May 2012 at the start of its journey with the when required 6M21 Didcot Yard - Kineton MOD trip, obviously no much traffic to be conveyed on this particular day as a single VGA van makes up the lightweight consist

66188 leads the truly huge 6V66 Redcar - Margam loaded coke through Catholme on the 14th of July 2011, at 31 HTA's in length its a pretty impressive sight, and with the super evening light it couldn't have turned out much better, seen on the very left of the picture is Central Rivers depot which houses numerous voyagers when not crammed with passengers during the day

66199 passes just to the South of Lydney with 6V07 Round Oak - Margam on the 22nd of July 2011, a sunny break of around 3 minutes occured at exactly the right time as some jet black clouds rolled in from the North, the outcome couldn't of been any more striking!

66199 trundles through Catholme with 4Z32 Ratcliffe - Margam on the 14th of July 2011, while to the north the sky remained grey and cloudy for the entire evening this location was blessed with some lovely light to make the day worth while
