Scotland 2012

After visiting the Clyde Valley stretch of line exactly a year ago I had the opportunity to have another stab at it, granted the weather this time around was more typically Scottish but even with this being out and surrounded by the rolling hills was still more than pleasant! Also this time around a trip to Edinburgh Waverley was included to capture some of the nocturnal activities of the capital of Scotland

After waiting on the Viaduct at Crawford for a northbound freight which never showed up I attempted to get to Abington for 6M65 Ravenstruther - Ratcliffe, literally as I was walking up the field 66551 could be seen restarting its journey after a short stop in the loop, after quickly wedging the step ladder against the wall and grabbing the camera out of the bag the first sunny freight of the trip had been bagged! 23rd of April 2012

185127 thunders through Wandel on the 23rd of April 2012 with 1M98 Edinburgh Waverley - Manchester Airport

First Scotrail liveried 90021 and EWS example 90028 pair up to work 6O15 Mossend - Eastleigh through Wandel on the evening of the 23rd of April 2012, so pleased to get this in good light as it is quite a rare event to get paired up Class 90's on freight north of the border now

185141 glints in the low evening light as it passes through Wandel with 1M90 Edinburgh Waverley - Manchester Airport on the 23rd of April 2012

37667 + 37194 make a very rare appearance for the class on the 24th of April 2012 being employed to work 4M82 Coatbridge - Daventry due to the lack of availability of a shed, due to the dire light this location was chosen more for the sight and sound of these monsters as they are seen going up hill after just departing Abington loop, full bore, full noise, big smiles all around!

Strathclyde Passenger Transport liveried 334016 stands at Edinburgh Waverley prior to working 2H49 to Helensburgh Central on the evening of the 25th of April 2012

156465 awaits its departure time at Edinburgh Waverley on the 25th of April 2012 with 2Y65 to Glasgow Central

43290 stands at Edinburgh Waverley prior to working ECS to Craigentinny as 5S25 on the 25th of April 2012, the new livery quite suits the HST design, but then most liveries do, just a shame the vinyls are not applied straight!

With the Saltire nicely incorporated into the livery 158869 shows off the latest colour scheme to be worn by Scottish based units, seen in Platform 1 at Edinburgh Waverley on the 25th of April 2012 with 2G25 Newcraighall - Perth

Shortly after arriving 90039 stands at Edinburgh Waverley with the empty Caledonian Sleeper stock that formed 5C11 from Polmadie on the night of the 25th of April 2012

A very early start was rewarded on the 27th of April 2012 with the capture of 92015 leading 92011 DIT while working 6X65 Didcot - Mossend, todays consist was made up entirely of loaded cars seen here passing Wandel bang on time

Wearing a special livery dedicated to Bombardier 221115 passes through Abington while working 1M52 Edinburgh Waverley - Birmingham New Street on the 27th of April 2012, the branding states 'More trains... Fewer cars... Greener planet' which is all well and good if you can put up with travelling in one of these overpriced mobile toilets!

DRS's 66433 leads its fully loaded consist through Abington on the 27th of April 2012 with 4M44 Mossend - Daventry, thankfully the cloud bank rolling in from the east held on just long enough for this to pass

92011 powers through Crawford on the 27th of April 2012 with 4M63 Mossend - Hams Hall, for this working this is quite well loaded as sometimes it can contain more empty spaces than containers! From here up on the hillside this telephoto view shows of the near 90 degree curve in the track visible at this location

Thankfully running slightly early therefore avoiding a pretty cloudy period, 66303 heads through Wandel with 4M82 Coatbridge - Daventry on the 27th of April 2012, in little less than 2 miles this service will be looped at Abington to allow a series of other working to pass before continuing on its way and grind its way south towards Beatock Summit

With the next heavy shower making its way over the hill 390025 hammers through Wandel on the 27th of April 2012 while forming 1M17 Glasgow Central - London Euston
